EU investment in section of Belgrade – Niš fast rail
European Commission has published sixth investment package as a part of EU Economic and Investment Plan for Western Balkans, which is expected to mobilize 1.2 bil EUR of investments.
President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen stated that that achieves the plan of 30 bil EUR of investments for the Western Balkans.
New lead investments include three priority areas of Economic and Investment Plan, one one of which is sustainable transport, in which funds are dedicated to the improvement of railway infrastructure on Corridor X, with fast connection Belgrade –Velika Plana (part of the Belgrade – Niš railway), enabling faster transport of passengers and cargo in the region.
Up to now, EU has approved programmes for the mobilization of 17.5 bil EUR of investments within Economic and Investment Plan, including 5.4 bil EUR of EU grants.
