European Union grants 175.9 mil EUR for Belgrade-Niš railway
European Union will grant 175.9 mil EUR for Paraćin – Međurovo section on Belgrade- Niš railway. Serbia was granted 263 mil EUR of non-refundable aid for seven projects.
One among the seven new projects in the field of energy, environment and transport infrastructure is the Belgrade-Niš railway. EU expects that the reconstruction of the railway will enable fast railway transport. EU Ambassador in Serbia, Emanuele Giaufret, stated that this is large and important investment.
Minister for European Integrations Tanja Miščević stated that new projects will enable better quality of life for the general public.
Results will be seen very quickly – there will be a significant improvement in train travel time between Niš and Belgrade and safety of passengers will be improved, production capacities of our energy system will be increased, especially from renewable sources using the wind power, and reduce losses in transmission system – said Miščević.
She stated that the construction of Niš railway bypass will be planned in the upcomming projects.
The „EU for you“ organization stated that Paraćin – Međurovo section, 48.3 km long, will be funded with 175.9 mil EUR. Project includes construction of double-track railway, together with signaling and telecommunication system. They announced that reconstruction of Belgrade- Niš railway will enable trains to go up to 200 km/h.
