Serbia to modernize railway between Belgrade and Northern Macedonia with EU support
Serbia will enter the project of modernization of railway between Belgrade and state border with Northern Macedonia with EU co-financing, said Serbian president Aleksandar Vučić during his visit to Brussels.
President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, confirmed that the European Commission is ready to support the project of railway construction between Belgrade and Northern Macedonia.
Estimated value of this project is 1.766 billion EUR, and the project is aimed to end by 2025 or 2026. It is agreed that EU will support modernization of Belgrade-Niš section of the railway amounting to 35% of the cost. Length of Belgrade-Niš section is 241 km, and the Niš-Preševo-State Border section is 157 km.
