Reconstructuon of 402 km of railways throughout Serbia – Value of works 960 mil EUR
Serbian Railways Infrastructure stated that they are performing reconstruction and maintenance works on 402 km of national and regional railways in Serbia, with the total value of works estimated at 960 million EUR.
Adding the 516 km of railways reconstructed in the past four years, a total of 1.5 billion EUR was invested in the modernization and reconstruction of railway network in Serbia, claims the press release, and adds that total funds intended for the railways is 4.5 billion EUR.
– Thanks to the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure and Government of Serbia a comprehensive modernization of railway infrastructure in Serbia is in progress, along with the construction of new railways, which will completely change the railway traffic in our country in the next few years – claims Infrastrucutre.
In this moment, construction is in progress of 74.7 km of high speed rail between Belgrade and Novi Sad, and the first 17 km of railways supporting speeds up to 200 km/h have been set.
In addition, reconstruction began on 68.8 km of railways on Jajinci-Mala Krsna section, on international railway Corridor X, and this year reconstruction started on some 259 km of regional railways in Serbia.
Works are currently performed on regional sections Niš-Zaječar (108 km), Subotica – Senta (38,5 km), Markovac – Resavica (53 km), Kragujevac – Lapovo (31 km) and Kikinda – Banatsko Miloševo (28,5 km).
Thanks to the last year’s reconstruction of regional railways Šabac – Loznica – Brasina (53 km) and Požarevac – Majdanpek (90 km), railway passenger transport was again established on these sections after several years of inactivity.
In addition, in the past two years Serbian Railways Infrastructure reconstructed and organized 40 railway stations and automated 17 level crossings, as well as started the reconstruction of 27 tunnels on the railways.
Reconstruction of four tunnels each on Donja Borina – Zvonik and Kraljevo – Raška sections is completed, while the works on four tunnels between Bor and Majdanpek and fifteen tunnels on “Šargan Eight” are in progress.
In the next year we can expect beginning of works on third section of high speed railway Novi Sad – Subotica, as well as modernization and electrification of Niš – Dimitrovgrad railway, with the construction of Niš bypass, as well as the planned reconstruction of additional 230 km of regional railways in Serbia, says the Serbian Railway Infrastructure.
